Keith Cheung

Cheung started his study of trumpet at the age of 11, inspired by Mr. Tony Tsui. After graduating from Hong Kong Baptist University under guidance of Mr. Joseph Ngan, he studied in Conservatory of Rueil-Malmaison in France and the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne in Switzerland with Mr. Eric Aubier.
Cheung is active in participating worldwide trumpet activities. He had performed in competitions, masterclasses and recitals in Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Italy led by world renowned trumpeters such as Eric Aubier, Guy Tourvon, James Thompson, Joe Burgstaller etc. In 2018, he was a finalist in Eurocuivres International Trumpet Competition.
As a soloist, he had performed with HKBU Symphony Orchestra, Collegium Musicum HK, Hong Kong Festival Youth Wind Orchestra, Paul Kuentz Orchestra, Hong Kong Children's Choir and more.
As an ensemble player, he is one of the founders of OctoBuzz Trumpet Ensemble, and he performed with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, SAR Philharmonic, Ponte Orchestra and Singers, Lemanic Modern Ensemble, Gustav Mahler Orchestra, Ensemble Omnia Hong Kong, Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra and more.
Despite of classical playing, Cheung is also an active jazz player in town, he was the lead trumpet of HKBU Big Swingin’ Band and player of The 5422 collective. He had also performed with Happy-Go-Lucky Big Band, Island Express Jazz Orchestra etc. As well as live performance, Cheung also recorded for Jazz and Pop CDs and soundtracks for several Hong Kong local movies.
Cheung is also devoted in conducting and music pedagogy apart from performing, Cheung serves as Redisent Conductor in Hong Kong Festival Youth Wind Orchestra, and practised conducting techniques with Mr. Carl Choi, Dr. Law Po Kwan, and Mr. Jean-Claude Kolly.
